Dr. Akif Tahiiev has published an article on digital interpretations of the “inheritance of martyrdom” on Instagram in Open Theology.

This study analyzes how the concept of “inheritance of martyrdom” is visually and narratively recontextualized on Instagram. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, it examines how the legacy of Ḥusayn’s martyrdom is preserved, reinterpreted, and adapted for contemporary audiences. After reviewing existing scholarship on Shiʿism in digital contexts, the article offers a detailed analysis of Instagram posts related to the theme. The findings highlight Instagram’s role in fostering a globalized and interactive form of religious expression within the Shiʿi community, demonstrating its influence on the preservation and reinterpretation of martyrdom narratives in the digital age.
